ENGLISH VERSION: "The bishops of our Church in North America have a meeting of the Holy Synod by the telephone conference call". Letter of retired Metropolitan Ephraim of Boston
HOLY ORTHODOX METROPOLIS OF BOSTON
July 31/August 13, 2015
Saint Joseph of Arimathea
To the beloved clergy, monastics, and laity of our Metropolis,
Recently, because of the complications in the progress of my diabetes, my health has deteriorated to the point where I can leave my room only periodically. Even here in the monastery, I am now unable to attend the chapel services or to be present at the brotherhood’s meals.
At the same time, I observe that His Grace, Bishop Gregory’s duties are always increasing. We now have missions in Latin America as well.
Because of these two considerations, I requested that the bishops of our Church in North America have a meeting of the Holy Synod by telephone conference call on July 31/August 13, 2015 to discuss these issues.
At the meeting, the bishops unanimously resolved the following:
1. To accept my retirement as the acting Metropolitan of Boston;
2. To elevate His Grace, Bishop Gregory as the acting Metropolitan of Boston;
3. That I should keep, for life, the following title: “retired Metropolitan of Boston”;
4. That I should keep my vote as a member of the Holy Synod of our Church.
Accordingly, henceforward, the hierarchical commemorations in the Divine Services in our Metropolis should be done in the following manner: “For our Metropolitans Ephraim and Gregory…”.
Your fervent supplicant unto Christ,
+ Ephraim, retired Metropolitan of Boston
