ENGLISH VERSION: The True Orthodox Church of Metropolitan Raphael Has Broken Communion with the Synod of Metropolitan John (LoBue)
At a meeting on July 13, 2015, the Council of Bishops of the True Orthodox Church under the presidency of Metropolitan Raphael (Motovilov) resolved to break communion with the American Synod under Metropolitan John (LoBue), "Portal-Credo.Ru" reports.
In the minutes of the meeting of the Council of Bishops (in Russian) it is stated: “Having heard the letter of His Beatitude, Metropolitan Angelos, on the question of terminating canonical communion with the Autonomous Orthodox Metropolia of North and South America and the British Isles and its Primate, Metropolitan John (LoBue), to support the position of the Greek brethren in condemning the unacceptable statements of Metropolitan John regarding the Orthodox confession of the Name of God and to break canonical communion with him”. The results of the vote were a unanimous ‘for.’
In January 2015, the Synod of the GOC(R) issued a statement in response to the “anathemaagainst the name-worshipping heresy” of the Synod of Metropolitan John (LoBue), with the following appeal: “We suggest that you think again, reconsider, and make an intelligent decision. Otherwise, we will be compelled to initiate the procedure of an official cessation of inter-Church communion with you and the Autonomous Metropolia headed by you!”
The Synod of Metropolitan John (LoBue) is the only ecclesial group that has anathematized the Orthodox doctrine of the Name of God. None of the True Orthodox Synods in modern Russia have issued any condemnation of this teaching, and some of them have expressed open support of Name-Glorifying, the Orthodox doctrine that God’s Divine Energies are present in His Name and the uncreated divine energies are themselves names of God.
