ENGLISH VERSION: A Letter of the Holy Orthodox Metropolis of Boston about the Epistle of Metropolitan Raphael about Name-Glorifying
Beloved Orthodox Faithful,
Recently, there been an exchange of letters between the primates of two old calendar jurisdictions, the synod of Metropolitan Raphael (Prokopyev Motovilov) of Moscow and the synod of Metropolitan John (LoBue) of New York, concerning the glorification of God’s name.
Our Metropolis is not in communion with either of these old calendar jurisdictions. Yet, a month ago we released a letter from Metropolitan Raphael (in the Russian original and the English translation) because it is worthy of a careful reading.
Today, we are also able to release a Greek translation of this letter.
Metropolitan Raphael makes some valid points about the meaning of the "name of God" in Orthodox teaching. He also makes some valid points about the non-validity of modern "synodal decisions" that contradict the traditional teachings of the Orthodox Councils and Holy Fathers. The letter also draws our attention to quotations from Saint Gregory Palamas, Saint Mark of Ephesus, and other Orthodox teachers relating to the energies of God.
